Are the medications I have took safe (birth control use + other). What's causing my mental health issues?
Hello back a year ago I had been using the mini pill for 2 months then had a break of month or two. I then tried 2 other mini pills for a brief time (a week or two). Then I tried three different combined contraceptives within a few weeks with days gaps (maybe 7 pills total). After the combined pills I had become sick and angry and couldn't think properly. Felt very crazy and this continued after pills stopped. I had daily headaches for months but these were presumably from stress and cervical spine/neck tension as they are now gone. I became extremely stressed and anxious for 8 months after taking other medications briefly- amitriptyline once then zolpidem 5 times, and diazepam once, pregabalin once. After this extreme stress my mental health has fixed itself where I feel irritable and cannot concentrate. I am no longer traditionally anxious but am very irritable and depressed. I can't think. What can I do to recover? Is the old me gone forever?
To begin with, speak to a professional who will spend time to explore what's causing the stress and provide you with a proper diagnosis before discussing the next step.
Identify the core causes.
If it's the hormone therapy, I would check my levels and consult a women's health specialist.
If there has been ongoing anxiety and stress, I would check in with a mental health counsellor or psychotherapist to learn relaxation, deep breathing, reframing mindset.
If the psychosomatic phenomenon requires temporary usage of medication, I will be cautious with diazepam or zolpidem use, and will prefer to discuss with the psychiatrist before using pregabalin and amitriptyline. SSRI or SNRI or Brintellix will be more suitable.
Do remember that we are ultimately still in charge of our bodies and how we want to look after ourselves. Take a moment, breathe and slow down. You can do this.
