Dr Alonzo Sexton is a board certified, fellowship trained Orthopedic Surgeon specializing in
Sports Medicine who has been in clinical practice since 2006. Dr Sexton’s career reflects a
demonstrated track record of leadership, innovation and technical acumen.
Dr Sexton currently serves as CEO and founder of nCight, Inc a service that uses blockchain to
unlock patient and physician data assets to support the activities of private, independent
physicians. He also serves as President of ATL Orthopedics a private orthopedic practice
which focuses on representative care and new technology. Prior to this current role, Dr Sexton
joined Northside Hospital to establish a new sports medicine service line.
During his over 10 year career at the Athens Orthopedic Clinic as a member of the Board of
Directors he was instrumental in the expansion and governance of the practice. His particular
niche was evaluation and decision making in terms of the implementation of new technologies.
This specifically included creating risk/benefit profile of electronic medical record systems, data
management systems, automated kiosks and virtual scribe systems to name a few. He is
considered a health IT thought leader and has a deep understanding of blockchain technology
having lectured extensively on the topic and serving on the advisory board for Patientory Inc, a
company focused on health record interoperability via blockchain. Dr Sexton’s real talent lies
in his ability to synthesize complex technical topics into understandable segments which can
be understood by a broader audience. His medical experience within both the private practice
world and a large healthcare system have provided him with the proper perspective to make
recommendations that consider the nuanced challenges of these separate yet connected
worlds. He has deep expertise in clinical practice management and culture as well as an
understanding of the motivations of private practice organization in regards to the changing
healthcare landscape.
Additional leadership roles have included serving on the Board of Directors of Extra Special
People, and Camp Hooray, non-profits that work with families of children with disabilities to
provide support and opportunities for these children to have experiences similar to their
differently abled peers. He also served as President of his chapter of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity
during which time he was responsible for developing an award winning mentoring program for
young African American males. The program focused on identifying, celebrating and rewarding
excellence.
Dr Sexton received a BA from Stanford University and his Medical Degree from Emory
University. He served as team physician for the University of Georgia from 2006-2017 and
Georgia State University from 2019-2021. Dr Sexton was selected for the Herndon Directors
Institute and is currently participating in their board preparedness program. He was selected
for the prestigious Leadership Georgia program in 2017 and was asked to participate as a
program chair in 2018. In 2020 he was selected to participate in Leadership Atlanta. He is a
member of the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, National Association of
Corporate Directors, advisor for the National Physical Activity Plan Alliance and a member of
numerous medical and technical professional organizations.
Alonzo is an experienced traveler having visited over 30 countries, enjoys golf and skiing, has
been married for over 20 years and has 2 children.
